Legendary 18th President of the United States ULYSSES S. GRANT 2 page handwritten letter sent on November 22nd, 1879 from his home town of Galena, Illinois during the end of his world tour. Just 10 days earlier Grant had met up with General William Tecumseh Sherman and 80,000 other Veterans in Chicago. While there he was also introduced to famed writer Mark Twain who later helped Grant publish his personal memoirs. In the letter Grant writes to Francis Thurber accepting his invitation to a fair to be held in New York City later that year. Original handwritten transmittal envelope also included.

Letter is housed in a double-sided frame so the signature on the reverse can be observed. Letter is framed with an original engraving of Grant as well as the transmittal envelope also in Grants distinctive hand. Attached to the back there is a transcription of the letter. 


Grant writes:
"Galena Ill. Nov 22nd 1879 Gentlemen: Your letter of the 11th of Nov. inviting me to attend the exposition of the "International Dairy Fair Association," to be held in New York City for two weeks from the 8th of Dec. was duly received, but has been unintentionally overlooked. I expect to be in New York City during the holding of your fair, or exposition, and will take great pleasure in availing myself of your kind invitation if possible to do so. Very Truly Yours [signed] U. S. Grant Francis B. Thurber & others"
