6 Days After Being Appointed Attorney General Robert F Kennedy Jokingly Threatens to Set the FBI Loose on His Brother and His Friend, He Also Discusses the Perceived "Nepotism" of his Appointment

 

Attorney General, Senator, and Presidential Candidate, ROBERT F. KENNEDY, exceptional December 1960 letter signed 6 days after being nominated for the position of Attorney General by JFK. It appears it took roughly 6 days for RFK to begin jokingly threatening to set the "FBI loose" on his brother Ted Kennedy and Ted's friend using his recently attained powers as Attorney General. RFK further notes some people think his recent appointment is the result of "nepotism". RFK further explains that others have reasoned JFK appointed him to "protect Teddy and his friends from the long hand of the Federal Government". Practically non-existent private correspondence giving insight into RFK's wit and view on his appointment as Attorney General.

Letter is on RFK's personal stationery, RFK has typed:
"Palm Beach, Florida 
December 22, 1960
Dear Claude,
There is some talk that I might turn the FBI loose on you and Teddy and that would be a full time task for all their agents. Others say I have taken this position because of nepotism. The explanation givem is that Jack want to protect Teddy and his friends from the long hand of the Federal Government. In any case, in the future I expect to be treated with the respect and dignity of my position. In the meantime. I hope they let you into the Inaugural Ball.

Letter measures 7.25"x10.5", mailing folds as to be expected some scattering of ink above the "Dear Claude" line. Otherwise near-mint condition.
