Confederate General and military commander ROBERT E. LEE cut signature with inscribed rank as "Genl". Given the blue tint of the paper it is likely the autograph was removed from a war dated letter that was signed by Lee. Generally, Lee is credited with being one of the greatest assets to the Confederacy regularly besting armies twice the size of his own in battle and defeating countless Union generals until Ulysses S. Grant.
