Report signed by the Minister of War, Clarke, Duke of Feltre about a desertion of conscripts:
"It is not the old soldiers who desert, but the conscripts of 1811 provided by the department of the Lot. A certain number of these conscripts having successively abandoned the depot, they were obliged to consign the others to Fort Saint-Jean; many of them having taken advantage of the escape, of the moment of exit required by the parade and other exercises. The prefect of the Lot, who had knowledge of their flight, had 43 of them arrested."
Framed display measures approximately 16"x20"; document has minor wrinkles and folds consistent with age and handling; some paper loss to left margin, as shown. Otherwise in fine condition overall. Signature is bold and clear.
Purchased by Marie Antoinette in 1785, the Château de Saint-Cloud was a palace in France, and the main seat of the Bonaparte family. It was later destroyed in the Franco-Prussian war.
