American Founding Father and arguably one of the most famous signatures in the world JOHN HANCOCK cut signature almost certainly removed from a war date letter. A massive 4" long stunning bold signature from Hancock. Handwriting on the back of the cut in a secretarial hand reads "proceed to New York...General Washington on...The American lines shall...flag for the purpose of...New York".

CERTIFIED AUTHENTIC - Sale includes accompanying original COA from the highly-respected JSA (James Spence Authentication) who have thoroughly examined the autograph and certify its authenticity.
It is because of the reference to the "American lines" and "General Washington" that we can say with a fair degree of certainty this signature is from the Revolutionary War period.
The autograph has been elegantly framed by a previous collector. The frame features a glass front and reverse so handwriting on the back can be viewed. Signature is in good condition, slightly irregular cut, some bleeding of ink consistent with age. Autograph appears to be held in place by its corners.
