Fifth President of the United States JAMES MONROE and Sixth President of the United States JOHN QUINCY ADAMS autograph duo on partial ships passport document. Dated June 3, 1823 the partial ship's passport is signed by both Monroe as President along with Adams as Secretary of State. Adams has signed with a desirable full signature.

 

What makes this ships paper truly stand out is that it is also dated the same year (less than 6 months) before Monroe unveiled his touchstone American foreign policy the Monroe Doctrine. 

 

John Quincy Adams was James Monroe's only Secretary of State, serving from 1817 until 1825 when he succeeded Monroe as President. 

 

Irregular cut along top of document. Embossed Presidential seal is clean and intact. Doc measures approx 5.25"x10.75". Some fading to both signatures as to be expected for autographs on velum. 

 

Document is in good condition for its 200+ years of age.
