Franklin D. Roosevelt Signed Letter with accompanying pair of binoculars used by the Navy in WWI.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt typed letter hand-signed by FDR as Assistant Secretary of the Navy during WWI. In the letter Roosevelt thanks the recipient for their donation of two pairs of binoculars which were leased for use by the Navy during WWI. Accompanying the letter is the set of binoculars referenced by Roosevelt which were used during the war. Also included in the lot is a letter from a Navy Ensign forwarding the binoculars to Roosevelt.

As part of the ''Eyes for the Navy'' campaign, Roosevelt called upon Americans to donate ''binoculars, telescopes, and spy-glasses'' for use by the Navy during WWI.  Roosevelt mentions in his letter "The glasses will be very useful in the prosecution of Naval Operations until victory is won. At the termination of the war, if possible, every effort will be made to return them to you, when it is hoped that you will feel compensated for any evidence of wear, by the knowledge that you have supplied 'Eyes for the NAVY' during a very trying period."

Sale includes accompanying original LOA from the highly-respected JSA (James Spence Authentication) who have thoroughly examined the Roosevelt autograph and certify its authenticity.
