This book came directly from the library of Ernest Hemingway and is noted as having been part of his library by a composite record compiled by James D. Brasch & Joseph Sigman. In this record the book is listed as #3181 having been in the possession of Mary Hemingway ("MH"). "Watcher in the Shadows" was published in 1960, Hemingway almost certainly took this book with him on his last trip to Spain in 1960 as denoted by the Spanish currency reference "Pesetas" and "Ronda" a city in Spain. There is a clear reference to Hemingway's failing health that eventually brought him to suicide "Cable Mary - Buy Medicines". This book was likely brought back by Hemingway to his house in Ketchum, Idaho where he eventually took his life. There it would have fallen into the personal library of Mary Hemingway. The vast majority of Hemingway's book collection is held by various museums, to date this is the only book we have seen offered from Hemingway's personal collection.
