Legendary French painter and one of the founders of the impressionist movement, CLAUDE MONET handwritten and signed letter on Giverny Par Vernon Eure letterhead. Letter is written on two sides of one leaf of paper. Monet writes to an unidentified woman offering his condolences and remarking on the recent loss of his son he had experienced which would lead him to produce some of his greatest works. 


This letter was precertified authentic by PSA/DNA when it went up for auction at RR Auctions in 2011. The item has already been reviewed by them and is guaranteed to pass if the buyer chooses to submit for a full opinion.

Monet has written (in french):
"February 8th, 1917 Because of the temperatures and the irregular…it will be impossible for me to be at your dear son’s funeral, but I wanted you to know how I feel for you and poor Genevieve. I went through similar calamities and I know what it feels like to lose a child, but for the mother the pain is even greater. I can only feel sorry for you and assure you that Blanche and I share in your sorrow.'


The letter has been framed and mated to an overall size of 17.5"x21". Frame features glass on both sides for optimal viewing of both sides of the document.
