The letter was almost certainly sent to her son John Quincy Adams this is inferred upon the mention of "Mrs. Foster" or Lydia Foster wife of Massachusetts born Senator and friend of John and Abigail Adams, Theodore Foster. Theodore Foster came to prominence while serving as a lawyer and political advocate in Rhode Island, he wrote to many important founders such as Thomas Jefferson and John Adams and established one of the first historical archives of letters from the founders. Abigail pens about 90 words then signs the letter "Mother A Adams". There are several instances in the Adams family collection where John Quincy Adams writes to others in reference to "Mrs. Foster". We have included one such reference in the last photo of the listing where John Quincy Adams writes to his sister with regard to "Mrs. Foster".
 
The majority of Abigail's private correspondence now reside in museums and collections such as the Massachusetts Historical Society and the Library of Congress. This is an uncommon chance to add an absolutely authentic autograph of the First Lady to your autograph collection.
