Infamous 3rd Vice President of the United States and Hamilton Duel participant AARON BURR lengthy and personal letter signed with initials "AB". The letter from Burr is written to "Ma Chere Niece" and addressed on the back to "Madame Chase". The heartfelt letter provides excellent insight into the personal relationships of Burr. The body of the letter is in the hand of a secretary, Burr concludes the letter in his own hand writing "Adieu ma belle amie AB".

I have been exceedingly unfortunate to have been so long without the pleasure of seeing you - {I have been} ever since the night of your very estimable note in the constant hope and expectation of seeing you in town - and as you had meditated a visit to our city - I was apprehensive that if I should go out in the forenoon, I might miss you on the road, and therefore deferred my departure until the afternoon, and when the afternoon came it brought with it some vexatious interruption of business, which necessarily controlled my wishes and compelled me to forgo the pleasure of the projected visit to the hill - this day however I presumed that you would be kept at home by the rain, so that I might be certain of finding you home, I therefore got a gig and started at 12 o’clock in all the rain after getting about 3 or 4 miles on the way, I was attacked very unexpectedly by the vexatious complaint which had for some weeks past annoyed me, and was very reluctantly compelled to return. Inform me by the bearer of your health, and how you support cette solitude ennuyante. If you cannot come to see me tomorrow I will certainly visit you at the hill about 4 o’clock. Adieu ma belle amie AB"
 
Letter shows signs of age, scattered staining and toning, tears and wrinkles, some signs of mounting to verso. All ink is still bold and legible, as shown. Letter measures 7.75"x5", encapsulate measures 10"x6.5".
